A recent Statistics Canada survey indicated the various traditional dialects that were spoken in the past, have been used less and less.
Saugeen First Nation Chief Randall Kahgee says like any other community they are struggling with maintaining things important to native culture.
He says languages in particular, he feels, are the cornerstone and heart of their culture.
However some people are trying to make a difference.
Kahgee says many people are working hard to make sure the language survives.
He says many children in school now have the option to take a traditional Ojibway language instead of French.
Kahgee considers that a huge step forward in the survival of tradition.
He says the will to continue is evident in the community.
The next step is building the bridges with the education system to assure that the work continues in the schools.
Kahgee says the educational staff along with past leadership has made sure that the instruction of traditional languages continues in the schools.
