Abby Bolton of the Paws Awhile Dog Park appeared on Soundingboard with John Divinski last week to deliver an update on the park and their fundraising efforts.
Phase One of the dog park — located at the former Port Elgin landfill — is nearly complete at a cost of 44 thousand dollars and is scheduled to open on August 2nd.
A recent fundraising event generated 49 hundred dollars and Bolton says they have raised enough money to put up the fencing around the dog park.
She says the opening of the park was contingent on getting the fencing up since that component is what makes the dog park safe for dogs.
Bolton says the Town has made parking available on the east side of Lehnen Street and signs will be clearly posted to inform owners where they can and can’t park their car.
With Phase One complete, plans are underway for Phase Two that will involve the construction of a walking track.
Bolton says they like to put in a trail within the 15-acre park to allow people to walk around the area safely.
She says it will be a stone-dust trail with nice, even footing and it will be great for people who may have trouble climbing over the big hill in the middle of the dog park.
There are more fundraising events taking place including the Mega Mutts dog show happening at the Plex on Saturday July 12th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.
Bolton says the event is a treat for the residents of the town that are very supportive of the dog park.
She says the Mega Mutts are a performing obedience team that does tricks and other fun and entertaining things.
She says Titan of the Saugeen Shores Police Canine Unit along with trainer Constable Andy Stewart will also be at the show.
