Work on improving Ripley’s Lewis Park is about to get going.
Huron-Kinloss Council approved three of the four tenders that clears the way for work to be done on landscaping, and the installation of a new playground equipment and splash pad.
Council did not vote on whether to accept the tender for new washrooms as all of them came in at least $19,000 over budget.
Mayor Mitch Twolan says the Township will be going out to see what alternatives they can find or whether they will have to scale that part of the project down.
Twolan says the landscaping tender went to a company from the Waterloo area.
He says there are not too many local specialty contractors and they often have to go out of the area to get someone to do the job.
He says you would like to give local people a chance to bid on the project but sometimes you have to go with the best price out there.
Twolan says the Lewis Park Revitalization Committee is close to reaching their fundraising goal.
So far they have raised over $210,000 of their $233,000 goal.
He says the hard work from the volunteers have been well received by Council and the community.
There is another fundraiser — a Bruce Power Moonlight Movie Night in Ripley — happening on July 4th.
