There is a special golf tournament today to help Grey Bruce families deal with the expense of an illness.
The annual Jim Millman Memorial Golf tournament is being held at Stone Tree in Owen Sound.
One of the organizers Shirley Millman says they are raising money for the Jim Millman Foundation that helps families in need.
The group distributes money to Grey Bruce residents who suffer from a medical illness and need help paying bills or buying groceries.
Millman says they also help people who need transportation to and from hospitals.
Millman notes there is strong demand for the service in the community as she gets about 5 calls a week from people seeking assistance.
The Foundation is currently helping 49 families.
Millman says the golf tournament is their biggest fundraiser and it helps replenish their funds.
Last year’s golf tournament raised about 20 thousand dollars.
Millman’s goal this year is 10 thousand dollars but she hopes to match last year’s total.
The event begins with a shave off at 12 Noon as 10 people will lose their hair including Shirley Millman’s son and grandson.
Golf begins at 1 PM but tickets are still available for the dinner only at 25 dollars.
