Bruce Power is going to be carrying out a full power test of its emergency Public Alerting Sirens today at 10 a.m.
Kincardine Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator Roberta Trelford says the public will be notified through an auto-call message on their phones that the sounding of the sirens is for test purposes only.
There are 10 sirens located within three kilometres of the Bruce Power Plant and Trelford says they will be able to be heard for several kilometres around the plant site.
The sirens will sound simultaneously for a period of two minutes.
The Public Alerting Sirens are part of the communication system used to notify residents within three kilometres of Bruce Power of any nuclear emergency.
The system is operated by Bruce Power and managed and activated on behalf of the municipality and the Province.
Trelford says Bruce Power tests the sirens regularly but today’s test is an annual one which involves the municipality.
The public is reminded the sounding of the sirens this morning 10 is just for test purposes.
