Today is the last day for most schools in the region, but for one school it’s the last day they will ever be open.
Strathcona Senior Public School in Owen Sound will open it’s doors for one last time today before it officially closes forever.
The Bluewater District School Board approved last week the Owen Sound Accommodation Review Committee’s recommendation to shut down the school.
Students from Strathcona will attend Bayview Public School, Sydenham Community School or Alexandra Community School next fall.
Principal Karen Moore says packing up of the school’s supplies and equipment has been going on for the past few weeks and the materials will be distributed to the other three schools.
Moore says the Bluewater Board also hired a couple of extra custodians to help out with the packing.
Moore confirmed with Bayshore Broadcasting News that all the staff at Strathcona have chosen different positions within the school board.
Moore say the last day in the school year is always special, but for Strathcona today is an extra special day.
Moore says today there will be a BBQ for all the students put on by the parents and in the afternoon there will be a special assembly which will feature handing out awards, musical performances and a magic show.
