Twelve restorative care beds are opening at the Owen Sound Hospital today.
The 12 beds in Owen Sound are part of a pilot project funded by the Southwest LHIN, and there will be a 10 bed unit at the Grey Bruce Health Services site in Chesley as well.
Senior Director for Clinical Services, Elaine Burns, says all staff has been hired and getting up to speed with the Restorative Care course at Georgian College.
She says it is a process to help patients transition from acute care to living at home.
Burns says patients are monitored and taught how to self-manage their own medication, and are encouraged to feed and dress themselves.
Their stay in Restorative Care can last up to 30 days.
