They’ve got the beat, they’ve got the beat.
Not the Go-Gos, but eight organizations, residents, and municipalities in Grey-Bruce have been recognized for their efforts to improve their health and quality of life.
The Grey-Bruce Partners in Health is handing out this year’s “The Beat Goes On Awards.”
They received 28 nominees this year.
Northport Elementary in Port Elgin was chosen because of the various nutritional and exercise programs they stress at the elementary school, including their Breakfast Club program.
Chesley District High School took the honour for encouraging physical activity with their track and field days and theme weeks for Phys. Ed. classes.
Kincardine was recognized as a healthy municipality for improvements to the trail system, and the town’s support of athletics.
The Municipality’s Administration Office is also being recognized improving the health of their employees by providing free memberships to the Davidson Centre.
The Red Cross Community Health Services in Owen Sound won for Workplace with 50-200 Employees.
For a workplace with more than 200 workers, RBW Transcontinental was recognized for activities and campaigns initiated by the company’s Wellness Committee.
Owen Sound’s Lifestyle Group won the community group category. The group is made up of four residents who have made a commitment to meet for half an hour a week to study healthy choices.
And Jan Giesler, a Walkerton resident, was recognized in the individual category.
Giesler improved her lifestyle by quitting smoking, hiring a physical trainer, and adjusting her eating habits to become more health aware.
The Health Unit will hand out the official awards at a later date, not yet set.
