QUEEN?S PARK – Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker announced funding today from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for nine local organizations.
The largest grant of $143,000 went to United Way of Bruce Grey to help develop and pilot a community response network for the two counties. The project will provide resources to people experiencing poverty, ensure access to financial literacy and counseling, and improve the delivery of the Winter Warmth program for those needing assistance with their utility costs.
Bill extends his congratulations to all the volunteers who applied for OTF grants, and offer their time and energy to these groups.

Here are the individual recipients:
Bluewater Astronomical Society
$36,000 over one year to purchase and install equipment that will enable the organization to become a fully functional public observatory, open to youth and members of the broader community who wish to pursue their interest in astronomy in Oliphant and Bruce County.
Hanover Columbus Center
$9,700 over one year to build an accessible ramp and install automatic entrance doors at the centre.. These improvements will ensure better, safer access to the facility’s programs and services for the many community members of all abilities and ages in Bruce and Grey counties.
Keystone Child, Youth and Family Services
$85,800 over two years to hire a volunteer co-ordinator, who will develop and pilot a volunteer respite-provider program for families with children who have special needs in Grey and Bruce counties. Up to 35 volunteers will be recruited and trained to provide in-home and/or in-community respite.
Maxwell Seniors Young at Heart #772 Club of United Senior Citizens of Ontario USCO
$6,300 over one year to build a storage room for tables and chairs and create a cleaning room in the Maxwell Community Centre by installing a water line and a deep sink. These renovations will make ongoing maintenance of the centre much safer for volunteers who do the cleaning.
Optimist Club of Sydenham and District
$10,500 over one year to complete the final one-kilometre length of the Trees of Grey and Bruce Trail. The installation of seven interpretive stations, educational signage and benches will help finalize this barrier free trail in the Inglis Falls Arboretum of the Inglis Falls Conservation Area in Owen Sound for the entire community to enjoy.
Sauble Beach Cross Country Ski Club
$13,200 over one year to purchase trail grooming equipment, expand the parking lot and generally upgrade the club’s facilities. These improvements will enhance physical and recreational opportunities and encourage greater use of the area by the community.
The Corporation of the Town of Hanover
$23,900 over one year to install a new circulation/information desk, automatic sliding doors and updated information technology network equipment at the Hanover Public Library. These upgrades will help provide barrier-free access to programs and services for all members of the community and more stable, improved Internet access for learners.
The Optimist Club of Normanby Township
$3,000 over six months to purchase 35 plastic folding tables for use at the Centennial Hall in Ayton. The new tables will replace heavy wooden ones, making set-up and take-down much easier and safer for community groups that use the hall on a regular basis, including those that target seniors and youth.
