Grey Bruce Health Unit, Rabies Program Manager Karen Sweiger says test results from Thursday confirmed rabies in a cow from the Walkerton area.
Sweiger says the animal was killed and tissue samples were sent for testing with the results confirming positive for rabies.
Sweiger says seven people may have been exposed to the cow and have begunĀ the rabies post-exposure preventative treatment.
This brings the total number of rabid animals in the Grey Bruce region to three this year with two rabid skunks confirmed in April and earlier this month.
Sweiger says people are usually outside more during the summer months and says they are finding more biting incidents increase in those months so are asking residents to be careful around stray and wild animals.
