It was standing room only at Kincardine council chambers as residents came to hear a presentation on the Armow Wind Project.
The developers are apparently looking for a little leeway from Kincardine policy on turbines.
The Armow Wind Project — now under the ownership of Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy — and they hope to go ahead with construction in 2013.
The plan is to build approximately 90 turbines, according to Pattern project manager Jody Law.
However, with the myriad restrictions placed on it by Kincardine and other agencies, at this point they could only build five.
Law says they’d like to talk about that with stakeholders and the municipality.
Kincardine councillor Jacqueline Faubert, who is not a fan of turbines, asked what would it take to make the group leave, which brought about a round of applause.
Law says he expected some negative comments but he still wants to work with the municipality and its citizens to build responsibly.
Faubert says she’s just frustrated with the way the province is handing alternative energy.
She says the province moved ahead without proper protocol and foresight and the whole alternative energy thing has turned into an experiment and it’s the citizens who are the guinea pigs.
Law says his group wants to develop responsibly and hopes a working group of stakeholders, developers and the municipality can get together to work out solutions.
