A fire Wednesday morning just outside of Owen Sound destroyed a significant portion of a home beside the Town & Country Garden Centre.
Inter Township Fire Chief Carl Linthorne estimates damage is around 150 thousand dollars.
Chief Linthorne says they had to battle some brutal conditions like strong winds to get the fire under control and save part of the home.
But he tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the fire had a good start before their five Inter Township trucks arrived on the scene around 9 AM.
The garage and part of the home is completely destroyed.
The home belongs to the owners of the Town & Country Garden Centre Dan and Tanya Stryker.
They were able to escape the fire with their two pet dogs safely and their children had already left for school by the time the fire started.
Chief Linthorne doesn’t know the cause of the fire yet, but says they’re currently investigating all possible sources of ignition.
It’s believed the fire started in the garage and Linthorne adds the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
A smoke detector alarm alerted the Strykers, who discovered the fire in the garage.
A trust fund for the Stryker family has been set up at the Meridian Credit Union.
