The Saugeen Municipal Airport designation has been upgraded to a CYHS airport.
The new designation provides pilots with the guarantee that there are no insurance issues landing at the airport.
Airport Commissioner Selwyn Hicks says this puts the airport in a whole new league.
He says this will particularly impact high flyers and those coming from the United States.
Hicks predicts the new designation will result in higher traffic volume which in turn will result in higher fuel sales.
Hicks adds the reclassification of the airport means the Saugeen Municipal Airport is moving from a recreational airport towards a regional airport.
He notes a regional airport will open numerous economic opportunities.
