Hanover is paying tribute to a deceased citizen and paramedic.
Hanover Council is making special recognition of Alvin Kaufman — who posthumously received the Governor Generals Emergency Medical Service Medal.
Kaufman’s widow Joan received the award on behalf of her late husband.
Joan says Alvin would have been so proud to receive such an honour because he loved his work and his community.
Kaufman served as a paramedic and the Manager of the Hanover Ambulance Service for 30 years spanning from 1969 to 1999.
He was nominated for the Emergency Medical Service three years ago just prior to his death.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell says all residents can take great pride in Kaufman’s recent recognition and distinction.
She says he was a wonderful person who spent his life in the service of others.
The Governor General’s Emergency Medical Service Exemplary Service Medal recognizes individuals who have completed 20 years of exemplary service, including at least 10 years in the performance of duties involving potential risk.
