For the first time a Brockton mayor is Warden of Bruce County.
Dave Inglis was acclaimed to the position for 2012 at the Bruce County Council meeting Thursday, after being nominated by Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer and South Bruce Mayor Bill Goetz.
Inglis has been saddled with the closure of the Walkerton Jail and now the re-alignment of Grey Bruce Health Unit services in the municipality but he says it’s time to move ahead.
Outgoing warden Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith has a piece of advice for Inglis.
Smith, who has completed a two year term as Warden says you have to manage your time because it will affect your family life and your lower tier responsibilities.
The new warden, in his inaugural speech, has called for a hiring freeze for 2012.
He says the county has a huge staff and councillors have to look at the tax ramifications if more personnel are hired.
Inglis also says he would expect an increase in the budget this year anyway if the county is going to keep up with programs and services.
Meanwhile, past Warden Mike Smith is comfortable with his past two years and feels the county has moved forward in its relationships with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which was one of his goals.
