Kraft Canada is so overwhelmed by the response from Owen Sound to its online contest, that they’ve decided to do Kraft Food for Families 2.0.
About two thousand people visited the Bayshore Community Centre on Wednesday morning to see the Owen Sound Salvation Army Food Bank presented with a 32 thousand dollar cheque, with CTV Canada AM broadcasting live from the arena.
Spokesperson Alice Wannan says the support they’ve received from the community is amazing, and now it’s time to help out other food banks.
For the next ten weeks, Kraft Canada will give away one thousand dollars per week to the food bank that collects the most online votes.
Wannan says the Owen Sound Food Bank will not be included, but now it’s our chance to go and support other communities through the holiday season.
Kraft Canada Spokesperson Julian Franklin says it was thanks to Owen Sound’s overwhelming response that the contest ended in eight days and forced them to come up with a new idea.
He says you always hear about the spirit of the community, but the amount of people that turned up this morning really proved to them the impact the contest has had.
Mayor Deb Haswell says she sees a whole lot of heart and spirit from the community.
She says the sad part is that our food bank is so well used, but it’s encouraging to see how the community fully supports a good cause.
