It is almost summer, but don’t expect any summer like weather for a while yet.
Environment Canada is forecasting that the cool weather will remain with us until at least the end of the weekend before there is any significiant warming trend.
Environment Canada’s David Phillips says in fact the first half of June has been unusually cool and wet with a higher than average number of thunderstorms for the Bruce Grey region.
He says this area usually gets about five or six thunderstorm days in June and already we have exceeded that amount.
Phillips says South West Ontario, from Lake Huron all the way down to Lake Erie is a thunderstorm and lightning hot spot with anyway up to two million lightning strike on a annual basis.
He says the Grey Bruce area gets an average of about 29 days a year with thunder and lightning.
Phillips says this now is well into the thunder storm season and people should be thinking about protecting themselves from lightning strikes.
He says the most dangerous time to be struck by lighting is after the storm passes and theskies begin to clear.
Phillips says there is a significiant lightning danger for at least half an hour following the passage of a thunderstorm and that is when most people are struck.
