Greys Roots Museum and Archives is getting ready to feed hundreds of people.
The museum is hosting the 7th Annual Maple Syrup Festival du Sirop d’Erable today.
Heritage Interpretation Supervisor Petal Furness says the event is held in partnership with Owen Sound’s Ecole Saint-Dominique-Savio.
Furness says the school started the festival in 2002 as a celebration of French language, community, and cultural heritage.
Last year the event was held at the museum for the first time – and Furness says they ran out of pancakes when over 900 people showed up.
This year, there will be four different breakfast settings to help spread things out.
Pancakes, maple syrup, beans, sausages, juice, tea, and coffee will be served every hour from 8 AM to 11 AM.
Furness says so far, the 8 and 9 o’clock settings are proving the most popular and they’re ready to serve 300 people at each.
Furness says besides the food, there’s lot of activities going on as well.
School children will be presenting Ontario’s Francophone history and culture in the Theatre, the band Scatter the Cats will perform outside the Moreston Heritage Village, and there will be demonstrations in the Blacksmith Shop.
Also available are wagon rides, sheep shearing, snow taffy workshops, and children’s games.
The 7th Annual Maple Syrup Festival du Sirop d’Erable is on from 8 AM to Noon.
Tickets are 10 dollars for adults and 5 dollars for kids and can be purchased by calling Grey Roots in advance or at the festival as available.
Proceeds will benefit the Schoolhouse Project at Grey Roots.
