The President and CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre has told his board of directors, mental health care in Bruce and Grey is lacking.
Paul Davies says mental patients are not getting the type of treatment or attention they deserve.
Davies says for one thing, there is a shortage of beds for mental patients and the waiting list is growing.
The beds are at the Owen Sound Hospital.
He says there is an extreme shortage of pyschiatrists in Bruce and Grey Counties and as a result patients are not getting the treatment they should.
When asked what happens to those patients that need help, Davies says, the patients have to get better on their own.
He says there are some outpatient programs that they can be referred to after being dischared from hospital but it’s not enough.
Davies speculates it’s not going to get any better in the future.
