Work is being done to stop water from getting into the structure and Council approved a previous Public Works Committee recommendation to replace the wooden siding with vinyl and the windows.
Members of Heritage Kincardine were at last night’s Kincardine Council meeting to ask that they return the lighthouse to the best of their ability back to its original appearance.
The work was done before any heritage designation was considered for the lighthouse.
Spokesperson Jane Rigby says they were not consulted about the heritage features of the building when renovations were being considered.
She says Council thought they were doing the right thing at the time.
Rigby says they would like the wooden siding back and the current vertical windows replaced with replica four-pane windows.
Rigby feels the lighthouse has been scarred as a result of the changes.
Deputy Mayor Laura Haight also sits as Chair of the Public Works Committee that made the decision to do the work on the lighthouse.
Haight says there was no intention to do anything bad to the lighthouse adding the structure looks better than one might have expected.
She says this is not the first time the lighthouse has gone through repairs.
She says Council agreed to have all parties discuss what can be done for the lighthouse and all historical structures.
