The Huron County Health Unit is officially starting a new Medical Officer of Health.
Doctor Nancy Cameron is the County’s new Medical Officer of Health.
Chair of the Board of Health Bernie MacLellan says Doctor Cameron was filling in for the acting MOH while he was on vacation, so they’ve already gotten to see her at work.
MacLellan says Doctor Cameron is living close by, in Mitchell, so she will be able to stay connected to the County.
He says they’re very proud of being able to hire a new MOH less than a year after the position was vacated.
MacLellan says many health units in the province are struggling with trying to find someone to take the job, and usually the only option is to offer someone from another County the position.
He says Doctor Cameron wasn’t ‘stolen’ from any other area and the Board is glad to have someone familiar with the area to take the job.
MacLellan says the Health Unit will also move to a single-tier leadership model over the dual leadership they were previously on.
