Saugeen Shores Council is in the process of reviewing capital budgets from its various departments.
For the first time since he’s been on Council, Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the numbers presented by staff are pretty close to what he expects to see when the budget is complete.
Right now each department head is presenting what they consider a priority for the municipality.
Charbonneau says that includes a solid amount of money for downtown improvement for both Port Elgin and Southampton.
He says there should be a nice chunk of money in this year’s budget for facade work to Southampton’s Town Hall.
Although they are not sure about the future of the Centennial Pool, Charbonneau says it’s a capital project they have at least began debating.
Charbonneau says a complete new build of the Pool is in the 12 million dollar range, and he doesn’t see that happening in the immediate future.
Former longtime Director of Community Services Mike Myatt is presenting a report with options on the pool at their next meeting on Tuesday November 29th.
The town says the total value of the projects being proposed exceeds their 2012 target for tax levy supported capital projects by approximately 66 thousand dollars.
And that represents an increase in tax supported capital funding of 128 thousand dollars compared to 2011.

November 29, 2011 – Capital Budget & Multi-Year Final Review (if required) 7:00 p.m.
December 5, 2011 – Capital & Multi-Year Budgets to be reviewed during Committee of Whole meeting – 7:30 p.m.
December 19, 2011 – Adopt Capital Budget and Approve Multi-Year Budget in Principle during Regular Council Meeting.
January 24, 2012 – Operating Budget Review of all departments starting at 9:00 a.m.
January 30, 2012 -Operating Budget Final Review (if required) 7:00 p.m.
February 13, 2012 – Operating Budget to be reviewed during Committee of Whole meeting – 7:30 p.m.
March 12, 2012- Operating Budget Adopted at Regular Council Meeting
