A new report on the emergency department at the Hanover hospital shows only eight per cent of visits are actual emergencies.
The report shows 26 per cent of the visits are urgent while the remaining 66 per cent are less or non urgent.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Esther Millar says the report shows people are using the E-R as a walk-in clinic.
Millar says the local doctor shortage keeps the Hanover E-R busy.
Millar says many of the visits are by people whose only access to a health care provider is through the Emergency Department.
Hanover’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the region.
The department handles about 18 thousand visits a year.
Interestingly enough — Monday’s are the busiest day of the week for the Hanover E-R while Saturday and Sunday the slowest.
So Millar says more people will work on Monday’s.
