The Owen Sound Little Theatre is getting a boost for its Centennial Mural Project.
The Society of Energy Professionals Local 160 has presented a grant for three thousand dollars in honour of the Roxy Theatre’s 100th birthday.
Twenty local artists known collectively as Studio XX will work on the hand-painted, original mural for the theatre’s interior.
The mural will depict the various looks of the theatre since it came to be in 1912.
Photos from the 1920s show some of the interior detailing of the theatre at the time, which included Edwardian stenciling, frescoes, curved balconies and 3-D carved figures.
It’s anticipated work on the mural will begin in 2012.
On top of the grant money, locally based Upper Canada Stretchers has donated the frames, and Tri-Art Acrylics will give all of the acrylic paint needed for the piece.
