The last of six local residents charged in connection with an international drug smuggling ring, has been sentenced in a Belleville court.
28 year old Tanner Tisdale of Paisley was sentenced on Wednesday to twoi years in Federal jail.
He was also put on 12 months probationand prohibited for 10 years from owning a weapon on a charge of conspiracy to export illegal drugs.
Tisdale was given another two years on a second charge of exporting drugs.
Back in December of 2010, 29 people were arrested in Ontario under “Project Needham”.
Tisdale and 5 other local residents were among those arrested.
Two Owen Sound men, one from Meaford, and a Walkerton man were all sentenced earlier this year.
One area man has had charges in the case withdrawn
OPP Detective Inspector Ian Grant tells Bayshore Broadcasting News says the drug smuggling ring used Zodiac boats to transport the drugs between the U.S and Canada over Lake Huron and Lake Ontario.
Police allege the suspects produced and exported ecstasy and marijuana and manufactured crystal meth.
Police were aided in their investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. drug and border officials.
