The potential owner of Grew Boats doesn’t have any long term plans for the building.
Steve Merrick had the high bid of 430 thousand dollars for the 12.85 acres and buildings on Highway 6 south of Owen Sound.
However, it isn’t clear the bid met the reserve price, and the sale still has to be approved by a court later this year.
Merrick says for now, he plans to use the facility for storage but adds if someone has a good idea for manufacturing at the site, they should let him know.
He tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the storage will not be marine related.
Merrick owns Royal Towing and operates in several locations including Owen Sound, Shelburne, and Orangeville.
BDO Canada was the receiver for the sale of the company and assets.
Spokesperson Bill Courage says a few hundred people showed up for the auction on Thursday.
It was the second phase of the sell off of assets.
At an auction in late August — hundreds of people attended, purchasing numerous items like cars and boats.
Grew Boats has liabilities of more than two million dollars owed to about one hundred creditors including two dozen employees.
