The Owen Sound Harbour is a top priority for Bruce-Grey-Owen-Sound MP Larry Miller.
Miller says he’s asked for a meeting with the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities to request maintenance dredging of the main shipping channel in the harbour.
Miller says the water level in the channel is now so low, it will restrict boat access.
He says dredging the channel is the easiest way to improve the situation.
Miller says the Owen Sound Harbour is important to local industries.
Local farmers currently use the harbour to deliver grain and the port also handles shipments of road salt for the city and paving stone for local construction.
Miller says it would be terrible to see the grain terminal close due to a lack of maintenance in the channel.
He says if it is not dredged in 2012, bringing ships into the harbour will no longer be financially feasible.
There has been no date set yet for the meeting.
