Work is planned on a couple of roads in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
This week, Council approved allocating $115,000 from the working capital reserve for the rehabilitation of Golden Pond Drive between Allenford Road and Gould Lake Road, as well as work on the D-line in Sauble for about a block, north of 5th Street.
Staff say the work was not planned in this year’s budget, but they note the roads have deteriorated enough to justify doing it now, along with other summer road work.
Their report says the section of the D-Line has a lot of patches and potholes, noting it experienced significant deterioration after the winter. They say it serves as a heavily travelled alternate route to the beach and experiences increased traffic volumes during the peak tourist season.
They say during the spring thaw, there was flooding on that section of Golden Pond Drive, highlighting issues with road and drainage infrastructure. Staff say, “As this road provides the only access for area residents, maintaining a safe and reliable route is essential for resident access, emergency services, and municipal operations.”
The estimated cost for Golden Pond Drive is $70,000, and $45,000 for the D Line is. Staff say as of the most recent financial reporting , the Town’s working capital reserve has sufficient funds available without impacting any previously committed funds.
