The region is marking Emergency Preparedness Week to help make sure people stay safe.
Emergency Preparedness Week runs from from May 5 to the 11, and the theme for this annual national event is Plan for Every Season.
The City of Owen Sound says the theme reflects the challenges the province in facing on a seasonal basis.
Throughout the week, the city will be sharing tips to stay safe and prepared for different emergencies.
Owen Sound and Bruce County say the best way to prepare includes making an emergency plan, building an emergency kit, and staying informed.
Bruce County Emergency Management Coordinator Ray Lux says, “we encourage residents and visitors to take steps to be prepared. Experience has shown that individual preparedness contributes to overall community preparedness. If you are able to mitigate and be prepared for potential emergencies, you may alleviate stress on emergency responders and community recovery efforts.”
The Bruce County Public Library will also be holding workshops this week in partnership with Bruce County Emergency Management and the Canadian Red Cross.
The library says the eight Be Prepared Workshops will be held throughout the various branches and will be run by Red Cross presenters on how to prepare of any emergency, including natural disasters and unexpected events.
Program Coordinator Nancy Kuhl says, “we are thrilled to partner with the Red Cross to provide patrons with the necessary tools and knowledge to stay safe during an emergency. By hosting these workshops in each of our service areas, we can help the community receive access to invaluable resources to help handle any emergency.”
More details on when and where to attend these workshops can be found on the library website here.
