The Owen Sound Attack took forward Trent Gates with the seventh overall pick in the Ontario Hockey League U18 priority selection Wednesday evening.
A 16-year-old Burlington native, Gates had 82 points in 33 games for the U18 Halton Hurricanes during the 2023-24 season.
He was the first of three picks the Attack made.
In the second round, 27th overall, Owen Sound selected goaltender Mason Costa. The 6-foot-2 netminder played for the London Jr. Knights last season, posting a 2.58 goals against average in 17 games.
And the Attack selected a defenceman with their third-round pick, 45th overall, in the U18 priority selection. Braeden Van Gelder, 16, had 19 points in 34 games for the Mississauga Rebels U18 team during the 2023-24 season. He also appeared in nine games for the Caledon Admirals in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (Junior A).
