The Municipality of Kincardine has elected to close the north and south piers until March 1, 2024.
The choice was made after considering the wave activity on Lake Huron, and Mayor Kenneth Craig says that it’s at its highest in the coming months.
The recently formed Pier Safety Ad-Hoc Committee has met twice since it was formed, and upon reviewing existing data will come up with a practical approach for the future use of the piers.
The mayor is asking users to respect the closure until the spring and to not access the area.
Councillor Rory Cavanagh, who is a sitting member of the Pier Safety committee, says that while the piers and lakefront are well-visited destinations, cooperation is needed as the municipality and beachgoers work together to find a solution for usage of the piers.
