The unemployment rate in the area that includes Bruce and Grey counties increased slightly to 3.7 per cent in November.
According to data released by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula region shaved more than 1,500 full-time positions last month, offset by the creation of around 1,700 new part-time jobs.
The construction (-1,500 employees), manufacturing (-1,300) and professional, scientific and technical services (-900) industries led the job losses in November. The healthcare and social assistance (+1,700), education (+1,600) and agriculture sectors (+600) saw employment gains.
The planning board says the size of the labour force and the participation rate was fairly unchanged in November.
Canada’s unemployment rate increased to 5.8 per cent in November, even as the national economy added 25,000 new jobs. Ontario’s jobless figure fell to 5.7 per cent (down from 6.2 in October).
