A walk is being held this weekend to remember missing people in the Grey Bruce region.
Organizer and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Coun. Beverley Nadjiwon says the walk will start in Ferndale and to Wiarton. It’s going to start at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
He says the 30-year anniversary of two missing boys Shawn and Leslie Jones prompted him to organize the walk. They were last seen on Oct. 22, 1993 in Wiarton.
“It’s 30 years and 30 kilometres and there is a message there somewhere and may be this is what it is, may be this time we will get an answer or find an answer,” says Nadjiwon.
He says the walk is also to remember Lisa Maas, who was last seen in Woodford on July 17, 1988. And Lois Hanna, who was last seen in Kincardine on July 4, 1988.
“I am walking for all these people,” says Nadjiwon. “It is not just for First Nations people, I just want to bring recognition to some of them.”
He says band members and from Cape Croker and Saugeen First Nation will be participating in the walk, as well as Please Bring Me Home, a not-for-profit organization that looks for missing people.
He adds others are welcome to join in as he aims to bring peace to the families affected.
