The Kincardine & Community Health Care Foundation gave an update to Bruce County Council about its redevelopment campaign.
The Foundation was able to give an update about the new CT Scanner that started serving patients back in March, which is on pace to do up to 5,000 scans in its first year of operation.
They are also requesting a $1.5 million contribution from the county to go toward a new $6 million MRI machine, which is in turn, a part of their $12 million renovation plan.
Murray Elston from the Foundation says that they had planned to internalize raising the $12 million, but then were informed by the province that they were set to be a hospital where an MRI would be added.
“We had the program approvals going through the Ministry of Health. We were advised by the Ministry of Health that we had been designated as one of the hospitals to consider adding an MRI.”
He says that they understand that the addition of an MRI machine would be beneficial to people throughout the county.
“We expect that the MRI will not only serve the people in Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss but also throughout most of Bruce County.”
The funding request presented to council as a part of the report was met with positive comments from councillors.
