Huron Shores Hospice has raised over $200,000 from its annual Handbags for Hospice Gala.
Hospice Founding Director Cheryl Cottrill says the event on Sept. 21 drew about 170 people to the Kincardine Pavilion for the seventh annual event, the largest fundraising event for the hospice.
“We had a couple years we had to go virtual during Covid but we are happy to see everybody back in the room again and having lots of fun,” says Cottrill.
She says they had a silent and live auction which raised a lot of money for the organization, blowing past their initial goal of $180,000.
Bruce Power and its supplier partners donated a total of $100,000 to support the hospice.
“The kindness, comfort and care the hospice provides to people and their families is so important to our community,” says Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck.
Hospice Executive Director Cathy Herbert thanked Bruce Power for its donation and continued support.
“Thanks to this contribution, we can continue to provide this vital service to our community, fostering meaningful moments between families and those in need of end-of-life care,” says Herbert.
Cottrill says the money raised equals about two thirds of the fundraising budget they need to do for the year.
“It goes a long way to providing the fantastic quality of care that we give to our residents and their family members,” says Cottrill.
