Northern Bruce Peninsula will be going over a review of its local fire department this week.
The municipality contracted Emergency Management Group to conduct the review and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of fire service operations, as well as find areas needing improvement.
Some of the findings in the report touch on the large workload for the fire chief, the vulnerability to wildfires, as well as the need for a dedicated training officer.
“It is obvious from a workload and quality assurance perspective that the current training practices are not keeping pace with the needs of the department,” says the report.
The report includes a number of recommendations, with some needing approval from council.
Some of those include replacing both fire stations, hiring a second full-time person to assist the fire chief, and making an annual application to the Ontario Fire College for the on-site delivery of training.
The report says the recommendations included should be considered short-term and be implemented within the next two to three years if possible.
Council will be going over the review at its meeting on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
