Bruce County’s paramedic services committee received a new update on the construction of the new paramedic station in Port Elgin.
Director of Paramedic Services Steve Schaus says that the work continues this month.
“The parking lot will be started on the weekend of October 23rd, the aluminum [siding] panels should arrive on the 16th of October and they can start installing those. Doors were installed and painted this week already.”
Meanwhile, tilework is underway in the washrooms and shower areas, as well as drywall installation in the rest of the building.
Schaus also says “Right now, I’m happy to report that we’re still on budget.”
The project budget was set at $9,407,627 when it was given the green light by council on April 7, 2022.
Construction started in June 2022 but was held up due to supply chain issues and a lack of availability for skilled workers.
They’re hoping that Paramedic Services will be able to start using the building by the beginning of 2024.
