Bruce County is going to consider a $500,000 contribution over five years to support the Grey Bruce Health Services Addictions and Mental Health Wellness and Treatment Centre.
The Bruce County Executive Committee will be reviewing a report from Deputy CAO Christine MacDonald this week to recommend county council make the contribution and include the funding in the 2024 to 2028 budgets.
The report says on April 6, Grey Bruce Health Services made a delegation providing a project summary detailing the need for financial support to develop a purpose-built facility for those with addictions and mental health needs. Support to people would be provided through clinical services, community programming, and residential treatment, all under one roof.
GBHS announced last year the former Bayview Public School will be site of the new wellness and treatment centre.
“The support for those experiencing addictions and mental health concerns offered through this new Wellness and Treatment Centre will contribute to sustaining communities where everyone is safe, has a sense of belonging, and has opportunities to participate,” says the report.
The community fundraising target for this new wellness and treatment centre is $15 million, and Grey Bruce Health Services is requesting $500,000 from the county.
While a specific timeline for the funding was not identified, staff recommend the contribution be made over the five year period to minimize the impact on the county levy increase.
The committee will be reviewing this report during its meeting on Sept. 7 at 9:30 a.m.
