Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody says a study is underway to determine the need for local transit services.
“County council is very concerned about the lack of public transit in Bruce County. We are a very low-density county with a lot of small municipalities spread all the way from Tobermory down to Lucknow and it does present problems for people of lower income or people that would like to help the environment and not drive so much,” says Peabody.
Peabody says one of the solutions could be the development of a regional ridesharing app. He adds there is a need for young people who lack transit options when they are out late.
“Unlike in the city where they can order an Uber or a taxi, they can’t do that in Bruce County,” says Peabody.
He adds many mayors across the county are also concerned with the lack of transit options for service industries.
“South Bruce Peninsula is a large tourist industry and I know they really rely on the Grey Transit route to provide transit out of Owen Sound and the county is going to look at if we can supplement that service from other points,” says Peabody.
Those interested in taking part in the survey can visit the Bruce County website here before it closes Sept. 1.
“We want to look at all options just because being a low-density smallish type county, we are totally lacking this service and we want to see how we can fill that void and see what we can come up with,” says Peabody.
