Grey Bruce Public Health is sharing its literature review about opioid prevention with Public Health Ontario.
They delivered the information last week.
Public Health Physician Specialist Dr Rim Zayed explained to the Board of Health that “At the same time, there is a plan for knowledge dissemination with public health units, and with policy decision makers.”
She also said that they’ll be sending the information to the federal government, so that it may be included in their five-year strategy to tackle opioid misuse.
The locally-driven collaborative project is based on risk prevention and is an approach that connects local public health units throughout the province.
That includes the prevention of opioid use for teens and young adults aged 14-25.
“The preliminary draft was a good compilation of public health influence, in addition to the literature review and the recommendation,” says Zayed, adding “Hopefully it will be helpful for prevention strategies for the youth, for prevention of opioid and unregulated drug use.”
