South Bruce OPP say 139 charges were laid during Canada Road Safety Week.
Police say all members of South Bruce OPP took part in the Canada Road Safety Week campaign which ran from June 24 to July 2.
Police say officers paid close attention to the big four causal factors in serious collisions as they monitored roadways, including impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and failing to wear a seatbelt.
During this time, 106 speeding charges were laid, as well as two for stunt driving, and three for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Additionally, police say another 78 motorists were stopped and warned for moving violations.
Police say during the campaign, they also investigated 15 motor vehicle collisions, with minor injuries reported at one.
Acting Inspector and Detachment Commander of South Bruce OPP Keegan Wilcox says, “I’m pleased to see that we had no impaired driving charges during the campaign. However, these results tell us that we have too many drivers continuing to take chances with road safety. The Canada Day Week traffic safety initiative has ended, but the South Bruce OPP remain committed to road safety all year long. Motorists on Southern Bruce County roads can expect to see our officers’ stopping drivers that pose a risk to your safety.”
