New broadband infrastructure has been set up in Bruce County, providing residents in Sauble Beach, Tolmie and Skipness the ability to enable access to high-speed internet.
This comes as over $913,000 is being invested by the federal and provincial government to bring high-speed internet to Bruce County.
In a release from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers, the broadband infrastructure to bring to 233 families, farms and businesses internet arises from a partnership between both the Canada and Ontario government with Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc.
“It’s great to see this ongoing investment for internet access in Bruce County,” says Byers. “These projects will improve the quality of life in these rural communities, and I am delighted to see this work being completed.”
The contract to expand broadband services in the county was awarded by SWIFT, a not-for-profit corporation started by local municipalities to address connectivity in Southwestern Ontario.
SWIFT Board Chair Gary McNamara says they are pleased to celebrate the successful completion of a high-speed fire-optic network in Bruce County.
“This strategic infrastructure investment will have far-reaching positive impacts, unlocking greater digital opportunities that will support economic growth and elevate the overall quality of life for all residents,” says McNamara.
This installation is part of a more than $255 million being invested by the federal and provincial governments and the private sector to bring high-speed internet access to more than 63,000 homes and businesses in Southwestern Ontario through SWIFT.
