Kincardine Council heard a report about compliance issues from their Environmental Services department.
The issues arose from the significant rainfall event that happened on April 5th, which caused sewage overflows at the Maple Street Pump Station in Tiverton, the Durham Street Pump Station, and the Park Street Pumping Station in Kincardine.
Due to the unprecedented rainfall, the pumping stations saw extremely high turbidity which caused treatment issues.
The staff report showed that a chlorine residual was not recorded on the effluent water to confirm de-chlorination to the environment.
This was due to a concern for staff safety at the outlet on the beach, and the ministry was notified.
Since then, spring flushing has been completed for the Armow, Underwood, and Scott’s Point drinking water stations, which is a best practice for expelling any rusty or stagnant water.
