The salary disclosure list for public employees in Ontario shows local public employee salaries top out at about $350,000 a year.
The annual ‘Sunshine List’ which shows those who are subject to the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act and are making $100,000 or more per year in taxpayer dollars has been released for 2022 earnings. The $100,000 benchmark to make the list hasn’t been changed in decades.
Most Chief Administrative Officers in Grey Bruce’s municipalities made the list as well as fire and police chiefs, and their senior officers. Many nurses and paramedics make the list as well.
Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Gary Sims, at $348,115 was a top earner in the region.
232 people at Grey Bruce Health Services made the list. The hospital corporation runs hospitals in Owen Sound, Wiarton, Lion’s Head, Southampton, Meaford and Markdale, plus an addiction treatment centre in Owen Sound.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre, which runs four hospitals (Kincardine, Durham, Chesley and Walkerton) saw 54 people make the list. Highest paid was President and CEO Michael Barrett at $227,760.
There were 11 people on the list from the Grey Bruce Health Unit with Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra earning the top salary at $339,229, followed by Physician Consultant Dr. Rim Hayed at $301,008.
98 people who work for Grey County made the list which mainly includes departmental directors, managers and paramedics. Top earner was CAO Kim Wingrove at $218,217.
In Bruce County, 71 people were listed, again mainly directors, managers and paramedics. Top earner at the County of Bruce was Susan Petrick at $183,995 as the Director of Human Resources.
The Bluewater District School Board had 568 people on the list. Highest paid was Director of Education Lori Wilder at $256,999.
The Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board had 156 people on the list. Director of Education Gary O’Donnell was highest paid at $182,694.
Of the 79 people listed under the City of Owen Sound, highest paid at $195,938 was Police Chief Craig Ambrose, followed by City Manager Tim Simmonds at $195,732.
In the Town of Saugeen Shores, 31 people are on the list. CAO Kara Van Myall is at the top at $188,603 followed by Police Chief Kevin Zettel with $187,205.
There were 266,903 people on the list this year in Ontario.
The top three earners work for Ontario Power Generation, with CEO Kenneth Hartwick at the top at over $1.7 million.
