A memorial for those who have been lost to drug overdoses will be taking place in Owen Sound.
On March 25th, between 8 am and 12:30 pm, the United Way, Safe n Sound, and Grey Bruce Public Health will be meeting at the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market.
The public is invited to the event, where they can take a carnation, take a walk around the block to the 8th and 9th street bridges, and then drop the flower into the river.
The purpose is to symbolize those who have been lost and are now permanently gone from the community.
Donations are also being accepted for the Supportive Outreach Service (SOS) Project.
The event started in 2021, at the urging of Gelja Sheardown, to mark the annual anniversary of the fatal overdose death of her husband, Barrett Warwick.
Grey Bruce Public Health will also be in attendance, with Naloxone kits, safe-use equipment, and information on the current Opioid Epidemic in the community.
