The United Way of Bruce Grey is marking 25 years of supporting those in need.
The organization says it has a long history of supporting charities and community initiatives throughout the region, while providing funding for a wide range of programs and services, including daycares, food banks, and health and social programs.
Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says they are proud of the impact their donors have had on the people of Grey Bruce over the last 25 years.
“By supporting local initiatives, we have been able to provide much-needed support to people in times of need, helping to make our communities stronger and more vibrant,” says Dobbyn.
Over the last 25 years, the United Way of Bruce Grey has donated over $4 million to community partners in support of various projects, giving over 33,000 backpacks to low income children across the region, saving parents over $2.5 million in school supplies, and providing over $.5 million in utility support, assisting over 6,000 households.
When asked what the future of the organization holds, Dobbyn says they plan to continue doing what they have for the past 25 years.
“Moving forward, having discussions, understanding what’s happening in our community, and bringing people together to address the issues, and just taking what we learned through tat pandemic,” says Dobbyn. “There is so much more need in our community now then there was 18 years ago when I started here, in terms of the housing crisis, the opiate crisis, so what can we do collectively together to solve these problems.”
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the organization will be holding an event on the 25 of every month this year, the Coldest Night of the Year was the event in February.
