Kincardine Council received an update on the Kincardine Waterfront Master Plan.
Sean Kelly, the Lead Consultant from pl.ural says that his firm is drafting a more fulsome plan that can be referred to for years to come, that includes options for development that can be done bit by bit, and have the projects be able to stand alone even without further development.
Out of 526 people who gave feedback during public consultation surveys, most were permanent residents.
Kelly told the council that there were three main priorities that came up at those sessions: public safety, additional washroom and changeroom facilities, and protecting the natural environment.
“Safety was paramount. We heard that from everyone. Everyone and everyone. It wasn’t just the fire chief, it wasn’t just an EMT, it was actually your towel grabbers … they were talking about that as well.”
He says he was also pleasantly surprised with the people who brought up the issue of care for the natural environment, saying he was “Amazed at the level of understanding and appreciation of this, from the general population. Typically that’s much lower on the list.”
Kelly completed his presentation by letting council know that they were planning to have another public consultation in the coming weeks.
