Kincardine council has passed a motion to look into reducing the speed limit in front of one local school.
Councillor Beth Blackwell tabled a motion to change the speed limit on the stretch of Highway 21 that passes in front of Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School, which is a posted speed limit of 80 km/h.
Councillor Bill Stewart spoke up to add his support to the motion, saying that he has personally witnessed countless close calls.
The motion was quickly passed by council to request municipal staff provide a report on how to advocate for increased safety measures in front of the school
Those measures could include applying for a community safety zone, reducing speed limits at the beginning and and of the school day and possibly adding improved turning infrastructure in the area.
