The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority is downgrading its flood watch to a water safety statement.
The statement issued Jan. 3, follows the watch announced on Dec. 31.
The downgrade comes as forecasted rainfall between 20 to 30 millimetres and further snowmelt conditions will result in rising water levels and dangerous water conditions.
“Most watercourses peaked Sunday evening/Monday morning, however, water levels remain high. With rain in the forecast and the ground being saturated, it is expected that flows will remain high over the next few days and could reach bankful conditions again,” says the authority.
The authority adds while significant flooding is not expected, additional flooding in low lying areas may occur.
Residents are being advised to stay away from all watercourses, as high water levels, fast flowing water, weakened ice, and slippery steam banks will create hazardous conditions near all waterways.
Conservation staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update if conditions change. The statement will be in effect until Jan. 6 at 4 p.m.
