The Chesley hospital emergency department is going to close for an additional day this week.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre says the emergency department will be closed on Sept. 27 due to staffing shortages and reopen 7 a.m. on Sept. 28.
It’s been closed since last Thursday due to a shortage of nurses.
The SBGHC says the extended overnight closures of the Chesley emergency department will continue past Sept. 28.
It adds all efforts to find staffing for the emergency department have been undertaken without success.
Ambulance by-pass will be undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open emergency department.
The SBGHC says the hospital’s inpatient unit will remain open, but additional closures of the emergency department are anticipated through the coming weeks.
The closest emergency departments to Chesley are in Hanover, Walkerton, Durham, Southampton, Markdale, Owen Sound, Kincardine, Mount Forest, and Palmerston.
